Jammin With Mr Sacks (@Arraymusic with DJ Kwe On Stage Mix)
Behind the scenes Producer Notes for this featured track from the “Native Symphony” album of 2015.
“Infectious track. Nice tasty shaker and ending.” – Rick Sacks
In January 2015, I was invited to attend the Indigenous Music Creators Project by RED SKY PERFORMANCE that was held at Array Music Studio in Toronto.
When I met Mr. Sacks I knew he was a Guru from the beginning, which made me really shy because I didn’t know how I was going to relate to him musically. How was he going to include me with the rest of the ensemble?
To my delight, he not only encouraged me, but he also pushed me beyond my DJ limits and ignited a feverish fire of emotional music that came from my heart. I haven’t been the same since.
When we all were jammin’ during rehearsals and on stage I really got to know him and it felt like he was my Mentor. And what do Mentors do with their students? “JAM!” And that is exactly what we did. (Rick Sacks on drums)
“Jammin With Mr Sacks” was created with various instruments that I heard over the entire week. I wanted to recreate the same feeling through sound and included a marimba, shaker, sax = Mr Sacks, bass, kicks, rain stick and so much more.
This track was my way of showing Mr. Sacks aka Rick, how much of a positive impact he had on me during the entire week or music improve workshops. He opened my mind and set my limits free. As a token of appreciation for his dedication and hard work, I wanted to honour his generosity and create a track that would always remind us of the great times we had and still have yet to have.
I hereby dedicate this song to Rick Sacks, Array Music Studio and all the funky groovy people who can’t stop dancing!
